Manama: The Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC) today held its first meeting remotely following the issuance of a Royal Order on PDRC’s restructuring.

PDRC Chairman, Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda, welcomed the new members, and wished them every success. He also expressed thanks and appreciation to the outgoing members for the distinguished efforts they had exerted throughout their tenure.

He expressed hope that the PDRC will continue its successes, taking advantage of the accumulated experience and skills it has gained over the past years.

The meeting discussed the PDRC’s work plan for the coming period, especially regarding its announced and unannounced visits to the reformation, rehabilitation, remand and detention centres, in addition to the social and juvenile care homes, among others, to be informed about the conditions of inmates there.

During the visits, PDRC will determine the progress made by the centres in implementing its previous recommendations.
