Manama: The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has uncovered new updates on the Manama Souq development project during the 10the meeting of the Manama Souq Development Committee (MSDC), held virtually recently.
The meeting shed light on the recent developments of this project which aims to give the Manama Souq a modern yet traditional feel, reflecting Bahrain’s exclusive identity and heritage.
The discussions during the event covered numerous issues inside the Souq as well as the progress of the ongoing works to renovate the storefront and signage of 275 shops located on five main streets in the Souq, including Al Mutanabi, Bab Al Bahrain Avenue, Shaikh Abdullah Avenue, Al Tijjar Avenue and Wali Al Ahad Avenue.
Commenting during the meeting, BTEA CEO Dr Qaedi said: “The Manama Souq development project will give a face-lift to the current location, and enhance facilities and services as a key tourism destination. It will also upgrade the existing facilities, and this will allow the tenants to capitalise on much improved services. This is part of our ongoing efforts to support and nurture tourism locations in the kingdom working closely with key stakeholders,”
He further added: “These initiatives will showcase the authentic history of this unique landmark as the new designs are the perfect blend of the Kingdom’s past and present. The Manama Souq mirrors our true identity and legacy, therefore we are working closely with the committee on the ongoing works for the project,”
It’s worth noting that the MSDC holds periodic meetings involving all concerned parties to discuss the latest developments of this pioneering project, which aims to enhance the Manama Souq as a tourism venue.
The MSDC comprises representatives from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Urban Planning and Development Authority, Bahrain’s Economic Development Board, the Capital Governorate, the Capital Municipal Council as well as a number of Manama Souq traders.
